KL Saracens International Rugby 10s 2017

Amazing weekend of rugby for Dragons U10's. On Saturday morning we put both SCC and KL Tigers to the sword (the KL Tigers was an incredibly physical game) both 24-0 and then last match on Saturday was against Hong Kong Football club. This showed how far these boys had come and after going down by one try early against an larger, stronger and well drilled team, they didn't let that get them down. They kept tackling like crazy, and then attack after attack saw Hamish drive over from a quick tap to score in the final seconds to draw the match. On count back of tries this saw us top our pool and into the quarterfinals.

On Sunday morning we were up against HK Barbarians in the quarter final. We didn't quite find our best form but managed to tie the game again which meant sudden death over time. Unfortunately we could not score and they went through to Cup due to scoring first. The boys were understandably gutted but regrouped and won the Bowl semi but went on to lose the Bowl (5th and 6th playoff) by 7-5. We could have claimed the match in final play but it wasn't to be. Overall, all coaches and parents were so proud of the boys' efforts and most importantly we saw real character coming into a young team and a commitment to each other that is going to do them so well in matches to come.- Coach Craig

Dragons U10 – CUP CHAMPIONS!!!

An amazing weekend of rugby saw the U10 Dragons boys crowned Cup Champions. With 10 teams in the competition we faced 9 pool games. Saturday saw some easy wins and a couple of real cracking games. In particular a 1 try win over the hosts KL Tigers. The effort on defense from every member of the team was amazing. We ended Saturday unbeaten and withoutconceding a single point against. This continued on Sunday with the first 3 matches and then in final pool match the 2 top teams had to play one another - our old foes from Singapore Tanglin!
The game was a cracker and on a knife edge for most but Tanglin took the momentum into the final with a 2-try-to-nil win.
The boys were quick to pick themselves up, knowing that result now didn’t matter and we had to go and play Tanglin again in the final. Another cracking match and incredible tense. Again our defense was amazing and normal time ended 1 try all.

So to Golden point extra time and because Tanglin scored first in regular time, if it was still a draw after 2minutes they would be crowned winners. Easy – We just need to score! Dragons totally dominated the extra time and held the ball for most of the time. Couple of mistakes meant the clock was running down fast. In the last play of the day 3 perfectly executed rucks then Draw and Pass from Hamish set Nathan free on the wing. But he still had some work to do; around one player and then stepping inside the cover defense he crashed over between 2 tacklers for the winning try! To say the boys were happy is an understatement (see the photos!).
We do also have to say well done to our buddies from Tanglin, flying the Singapore rugby flag proudly. They were unbeaten in 9 pool games and incredibly unlucky in an amazing final, so well done to them and their coaches for a great tournament.

To our boys, your coaches and parents could not have been prouder of the teamwork and determination to get through the last two games. You were proud Dragons, playing as a team and playing for each other all the way through. Keep up the hard work!
