Born in 2010, the Dragon's U9 team is a great mix of old hands and new up-and-comers. We have kids who have been playing since they were on the U5s, through to kids who have never touched a rugby ball until they joined this year. Our goal as coaches is to make the training sessions as fun as possible, while at the same time teaching them the rugby skills targeted at their experience levels. A typical training session will see the team warm up together, then spilt up based on experience levels for skills sessions, come back for a short match and if time allows finish up with the kids favourite game, Bulldog!
Having progressed through the age groups since my son joined the U5s, it has been great to see all the changes and development of the players each year. From the U5s, when we just hoped we could get them to run in the right direction, to the U6s where they really started to grasp the rules and play as a team and now in the 8s where we see them throwing side steps and actually passing the ball to one another during a match! Our goal as coaches is to give the kids the skills and the love of the game that will keep them playing and enjoying rugby for the rest of their lives.
We train on Saturdays from 4:30 to 5:30 (please arrive 4.20pm) on Saturdays at UWC, so if you would like to come along for a trial session or three (to do so register online with Dragons), please let us know and we look forward to welcoming you to the Dragon family!

KL Saracens Tournament 2017
The U7s had another great tournament, fielding an all Dragons team for the first time at an international tournament. So many thanks from the coaching staff to all the parents for their support of the team!
The team got off to a great start with a 7-4 victory over Musketeers but faced very strong opposition for the rest of the day. We had a 3-1 loss against Valley Fort, who made it to the shield final and a hard fought 3-2 loss against KL Tigers A team, who made it to the Bowl Final.
In true Dragon fashion, the team didn't let this stop them! They came back with a 5-1 victory over KL Tigers B team in the Saucer quarter finals. And in what was the highlight of the tournament for many of our veteran U7s, secured a 3-2 victory over the Tanglin A team in the semifinals!
The Saucer finals was an incredible match against a very strong Valley Fort B team! Every single player showed great heart and skill throughout the entire game. Just when it looked like we would be going into extra time with a 2-2 tie, our MVP of the tournament, Owen Edmonds, pulled off a last minute try in the corner to make the U7s the Tournament Saucer winners!
This year and last the team has won the Plate, Bowl and the Saucer cups at the international tournaments, so now onto the Cup!!! Thanks! Coach Gavin
KL Tigers International Rugby 10s 2017
This year the U6 and U7 teams combined forces for the KL Tigers tournament, put in a very competitive performance and all the kids had an amazing time!
Over the course of the 10 games that the team played over the weekend, that were a lot of dramatic moments, with each and every player having some exciting plays and scores.
At the end of the pools games, Dragons had played 9 games, won 4, lost 4 and tied 1. Within those games, we never lost a game by more than 1 try, (including a 1-0 loss to the eventual cup winners) and in the games, we won, we had the highest scoring games of the tournament. A very strong performance in defense and attack.
At the knockout stage, history looked like it may repeat itself. We were up against the Cobrats again this year, who we beat last year to win the plate. The game was a real nail biter with every single player leaving it all out on the pitch, but the Cobrats finished out the game ahead by one try.
A tough tournament, but the improvement over the weekend in all the players was dramatic and they all had a great time.
A big thank you to all the parents for supporting us over the weekend and their commitment to the club!
And thanks to my fellow coaches for all their great work with the team!
