Dragons Rugby Club - Under 6's Years Old

WELCOME TO THE UNDER 6's

For many of you bringing your U6 boy/girl along to get them involved in playing rugby, this will be your first interaction with the club, a very warm Dragons welcome to you!

At this early age, the goal is to introduce the basics of the game - catching and passing, running with the ball, communication, the concept of attack and defense. For many kids, they will also be experiencing a team environment for the first time and we spend time working on both individual skills and in team situations.

As coaches our most important job is to make sure that the U6's have FUN! With that in mind, we try to balance our 1 hour sessions evenly between skills and games to keep the young ones engaged. We keep things simple and repetitive with progression on certain skills as we move on through the weeks.  There is little doubt the highlight of every training is firstly the Player of the Day (where ironically, we get everyone sitting nice and quietly awaiting the coaches' decision) and then it's icy bonbon time!

One word of advice, if you are a keen rugby parent, your enthusiasm may sometimes overshadow that of your boy/girl, we know ours did at the start! Give them time to get into the environment, they can simply observe if they feel comfortable for the first couple of weeks sitting with Mum or Dad or doing half the activities.  We're more than happy for Mum or Dad to join it to help ease their involvement into the group. We have kids of all backgrounds, shapes, sizes and skills levels. We welcome anyone to come down to training to have a run and see how they go.

The Dragons are a very family-oriented club, all the coaches are Mums or Dads and we get lots of participation from parents in our sessions which we actively encourage.
